short answer NO, the antenna was designed for maximum gain, any change will throw out the pattern and gain

yes , I built a 4 element pdl 2 using a moonracker boom years ago and it needed a longer boom than that to get the best gain at the time didnt think to contact the manufacture to see if thy would send me the lenght I needed. Worked better than any dual four element antenna. Was a little loose on the back side(receive) but i kind of liked that didnt have to keep going from ground plane to beams.made my own hubs out of nylatron didnt use the factory hubs too weak and always broke. Used copper wire with coating around all elements found that bare copper over time just looses recieve anyways so coating ends up being the best route to go with.stretch the wire before installing to keep from drooping over time.
