I raced a Matador red \'69 GTO Judge nearly every Friday night out here. My nemesis was Ralph Lunati in his 396 Chevelle. I don\'t think I ever beat him. We both raced pure stock but I think we both had made some modifications we didn\'t admit to. Gee, I wonder if he had a cam. My best time was 13.66. Great memories. Thanks for bringing this site back.

Did you ever attend a Lakeland race?

Yes, I attended a race in the late 1960\'s when I was stationed at NAS Memphis. I remember AJ Foyt and Richard Petty racing.

Do you have any comments?

In the race I saw Petty fell out of the race with mechanical problems and Foyt won with a flat tire on the last lap. I also saw a drag race featuring a 1968 Mustang Cobra called the Coors Silver Bullet. If I remember correctly the drag strip seemed to run up hill. I raced my 69 Torino there a couple of times.

There was so many more big named drivers there where here that\'s not on the video, I was 11 or 12 the first time I was taking to the track by my Father for a night race, I was hooked. I was 15 the first time I it the strip on my 125 yamaha. I was running in the low 21\'s but broke out of my et with a 20:96 against a 69 camaro. My best memories are from Lakeland drag strip...;

Mister Push Button

Do you have any comments?

I was surprised to find no pictures of Collierville Drag Strip. As a kid I spent many week ends at the track, My dad Bobby Bagwell partnered with Gene Edwards and raced the D Gas class. Others in that class to my memory was the Feathers Boys, Bonner, and Bobby and Carl WIlliams. I remember the lights hanging from poles and the cars popping wheelies and tearing down the lights. All races were canceled until they were fixed but they usually were fixed that night.I also was told that at the end of the track was a grave yard but there was a big mound of dirt at the end of the track and I did witness several cars go over the mound and disappear in the night.
