Quin McWhirter's Guestbook

It's what you do when you don't have anything to do
that makes you what you are when it's too late to do anything about it.

Hi Quin,
I just wanted to tell you my Grandfather was John Morris McWhorter married to Loretta E. (Lawson) McWhorter. I find it fascinating to see the different spellings of Mcwh*rter. Its is so nice to know the history of our name and excited to know more.

I love this! Thanks for the info on our family history...there are virtually NO McWhirters here in GA. My father passed when I was very small - and all of his family is gone. My infant son has kept my last name - just to keep us going as a family name.

I like the information about some of the earlier progeniter's changing the spelling of the the name. My oldest known ancestor was James Mawhorter/McWhorter b. 1801 in Washington County, Pennsylvania. My ancestor's changed the spelling around 1853 after moving to Noble County, Indiana from Marion County, Ohio. I've always been kinda wondering why they changed the spelling, but no one in my family seems to know. I kinda thought it may have been becouse my Mawhorter/McWhorter family branch were connected to Indians and inbred for a couple of generations, but haven't been able to find out for sure exactly why.

Hi, here is some of my family's names that may help you search your family history. My father John McWhirter was born in Glasgow Scotland, on May 18th 1937, His father was also called John and his grandfather was called Malcolm. My understanding is that many McWhirters lived in Ayrshire not far from Glasgow.
