7yr old son making himself sick each night!!!

Help! my son will be 7 in a few weeks time. For the past month at approx 9pm each night - he wakes up, has often quite severe crying fits - which are increasingly 'forced' - and he goes on to vomit after each episode. He tenses up his body and becomes very rigid - not quite screaming, but forcing himself to cry & then goes on to vomit. I've tried everything, talking to him about it, being there & calming him down - to actually ignoring him. has anyone else experienced this - how have you coped/stopped it happening. He's in a happy, caring & stable family environment; we're busy workign parents, but give him all he could need emotionally - he's doing OK at school and isn't getting bullied - he's a popular boy. We do expect a lot of him re: behaviour & attitude at both home & school - but nothing out of the ordinary. Any advice!?!?!?!??!

Re: 7yr old son making himself sick each night!!!

hmm, i dont know what to suggest but the way you say all this stuff about how hes not getting bullied and is popular...

even at 7 a kid can lie to his parents.

just cos he says he isnt being bullied doesnt mean he isnt.

its not even necessarily that he is lying to you.

maybe he has a different idea of what constitutes bullying to what you do.

if everything was as perfect as you think it is then he wouldnt be doing what he is doing.

i know you want to think that his life is perfectly ok, and ive just kinda barged in and said its not, but if it was then he wouldnt be doing this.

im sorry i cant really advise, but i think you need to think a bit more outside the box on this one, cos thinking inside the box isnt getting you anywhere.

oh, and get him to brush his teeth after he vomits if you can and he isnt doing already, the acid will do lots of damage to his teeth.

good luck,
willow
