Re: Re: 10 yo daughter wont go 2 school

I agree with everything nicki's said but in addition, when my daughter was constantly being picked on at her last school and getting close to the point your daughter is at, I enrolled her into some after school clubs, judo in particular and more recently guides (to make allies with the older girls) to boost her confidence in dealing with situations. Wasn't a quick fix but has helped a lot, for one they are all safe situations where bullies don't have to be included unlike schools who have to go through a whole process before they can remove the trouble makers.

Not helped one little bit by the authorities applying pressure instead of offering support, should be blatantly obvious to them there is a reason for her to be so scared of school. She obviously needs to speak to someone about it all and get some support resolving whatever is happening, I hope your gp offers you some help.

Do you know that if you home-school her for the time being that will satisfy the authorities and get them off your back so you can concentrate on the real problem?

Re: Re: 10 yo daughter wont go 2 school

sorry for a late reply.and thank you for your advice.yes she has been assessed and it has become a bit of a catch 2 situation.as the doctor cant see anything wrong with her.but at the same time we dont know what to do as we dont want her going to no special school.she is no backwards and just academically an average child.the school sent a bernados pport worker who made the matter worst.she told my daughter(who was then going to school 3 days a week)that she should set herself a target of going 2 times a week and that made her then stop going altogether

Re: 10 yo daughter wont go 2 school

Not too sure where you live? Uk? Usa?
i'm in Uk and I know around where I live, being school phobic would bring in Ed. Social workers not special school!!They are closing many special schools and having units in aminstream schools!!!
Genuine school phobics get transport to school and support in school. If you are in UK, there will be this provision for secondary aged pupils!!! I would advise being VERY assertive and discovering how these systems can be adapted to help your child. If you are in the UK, I would suggest you would be already be seeing the educational social worker? You usually get contacted by them when your attendance is 85% where I live?
Please... make an appointment at school. Your daughter needs help now if she is to finish her education.
