Sounds normal to me. Sleep with him as most of the world does and life is more natural and easy.

YOu could try stirring him just before you go to bed, I know this works with my son, if I go in and nugde him a little so he knows I'm there and give him a kiss and cuddle he'll then sleep through the night, if I don't he wakes and gets into mine.
