My two-yr old constantly screams and cries for me to pick her up. When I don't she throws herself to the floor. In the end I pick her up b/c I don't like seeing her cry. And b/c I'm constantly holding her,I always end up late for school or appointments. Does anyone have any suggestions to end both our pain?
You need to figure out where and why this sudden need for your attention came from: conflict with a partner, transition to a new daycare, etc. You should give her lots of reassurance, and attention when you can, but be firm and strong when you can't. Even though she is young you can explain to her in her terms whe you can be cuddly with her, and when you can't. It is a phase most likely, my children went thru it at 18 months, so your daughter is right on target- it will go away, be patient; the other side is more independance from you, and less clinginess. If you can help it, try not to respond to her with anger when she is being needy. Good luck.
