baby need to nurse to sleep

My 9 months boy has difficulty to fall into sleep by himself. He will cry and need me to nurse him to fall into sleep. It seem that he take my nipple as a natural pacifier. Recently he wake up three to five times every night. When he found that the nipple is no more in his mouth, he will start making noise or cry. I have to nurse him again and he fall into sleep again within 10 minutes.

What should I do? Any suggestion or advise?

Re: baby need to nurse to sleep

I am a big fan of the book "the no-cry sleep solution" which of course I had to tailor to my own child but we were faced with this situation at about the same time in her babyhood and just had to bite the bullet and suffer through it for a week. Then it was all fine.

Re: baby need to nurse to sleep

Honestly its gonna take some suffering but you have to ween him off of it. Not completley just at night. Make sure you give him a nice warm bath and a full belly right before he goes to bed. When he awakes in the night, at first go in the room and comfort him but tell him you are not feeding him, its bed time. No matter how much he cries, dont feed him till morning. It might be a few sleepless nights but he should get in the habit fast. Eventually if this still dosent work you will have to ignore his cries. Its not wrong when she know he just wants his pacifier, he is not hungry or wet, he will stop and go back to sleep when he realizes he is not getting what he wants. Remember he dosent NEED It so you are not in the wrong by letting him cry a little.
