Inside rust on fuel tank

Hello all. Thanks a bunch for reply on last post.I've
got another problem though.Fuel tank on my st16 is rusty inside, especially on the sides.Looks to be
flaky type of rust.Anybody got ideas what is the best
way to get rid of the stuff, other than getting another
tank. The 1973 tractor just has 275 hours on it.By the way,is that considerd low hours or average.Appreciate anyones help.

Re: Inside rust on fuel tank

Do a google search for "electrolytic rust removal". Read up on it, then watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvtHfNABEGI&feature=channel_page

This method of rust removal should help you solve your problem.

Re: Inside rust on fuel tank

you could try a radiator shop, they can boil the tank which removes he rust.

Re: Inside rust on fuel tank

Try the " Hillbilly" method for quick rust removal from a gas tank.

Simply remove the tank, and remove all of the gas, drop a dozen or so 1/4 inch nuts and a handfull of lock washers inside it, plug the fill opening with a rag, or cork, or the cap, if it isnt the guage type, and vigorously shake the tank.

The pointed corners, and edges on the nuts and washers will remove the loose rust in no time.
