steering linkage

I have a 1971 14 hp sears tractor.
The steering linkage going from the gear box, forward to the front steering fell off. It appears that the socket in the steering rod is wore out. Are those parts available or how do i fix it?

Re: steering linkage

I fixed mine with a piece of the proper sized tubing, bent to match the original, and two rod ends that can be purchased through Granger or McMaster-Carr. Tap the ends of the tubing to match the rod ends and you are in business. A cylinder of foam rubber between to steering linkage and the steering arm will keep the rod ends aligned, but is not necessary.

Re: steering linkage

You can find one on ebay, but it too may be worn.

I agree with the previous poster about making one. I've used the tie-rod ends with all-thread rod on the steering linkages before.

Here's a pic of one I made for an old Custom:

Re: Re: steering linkage

Thanx...I did fix it with using the old rod and welding a bolt to the end and installing tie rod ends.
