Hey all, I have a '69 Sears Compact model# 917.25430 that has been re-powered with a Honda 13 (currently) ... I finally got the clutch belt/pulley adjusted as per manual instructions. The tractor is currently on jackstands due to me being on front tire & wheel/ tie rod end replacement mode. .......... Problem: When the motor is running, shifting to a different gear isn't possible without grinding. All of the gears are achieved when the unit is not running ............. and all wheels turn both forward and reverse.
Here's my question:
Could the reason for the grinding be due to rear wheels NOT being on the ground causing for the internal components continuing movement
If my question isn't clear, please let me know. I'll attempt to clarify.
The gears in the transmission are unsynchronized. You won't be able to shift from one gear to another like in an automobile. You either start out in first, second or third gear.
The transmission input shaft must be stopped before you try to shift into gear. If the belt is still moving, you won't be able to shift.
