Seeking any info on Earl M. "Buddy" Swan, a longtime United Fruit captain whom I knew in the 1950s. His heroism in WW2 is mentioned in a New York Times article from January 29, 1944. In 1954, as captain of the SS Metapan, he rescued the crew of an oceangoing raft (yes - not a typo) during a storm and was cited by United Fruit. I have a hard-to-read clip about the rescue that I can share. During the '50s I sailed with Buddy Swan aboard Dr. Peer P. Johnson's Mobjack. (He always brought a large supply of bananas!) He was a great sailor and a fine man and I wish I knew more about him.
