I have been trying to locate a Lima Shay steam locomotive sold by my family in 1919 to the United Fruit Company in New Orleans. The train hunters online show the official version of the engine being scrapped. I found the same information for at least 1 other Shay. I can not prove this yet, but I think United was shipping these locomotives (they were small gear driven locomotives) to banana plantations around the Caribbean but I can't find any documentation on where they would have shipped it off to. Maybe Honduras? Anyway, if anyone has an idea I would appreciate a lead or two.
