I am wondering if anyone has any information on a plane crash that occurred on June 20, 1937 that killed a United Fruit executive named Gerchow. The plane was piloted by my Grandfather, Charles "Chick" Stanton who was also killed in the crash. There is a diplomatic file in the National Archives that I have seen, but I am trying to tie up details for a book I am writing. No one seems to know anything about the crash that shut the country down, required 13 military planes to search for the crash site, and prompted the U.S. State Department to send multiple telegrams to his parents regarding the incident. The plane was recovered in 1941. Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated! Please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
