Re: Re: Re: WEB

Chil Sung Yuk Ro is a popping form. It's one of my favorites. Chil Sung seven was actualy a surprize for me. I expected something along the lines of the Tai Chi form instead it reminded me more of a shaolin form. There are of course slow parts, but chil sung seven has some very challenging sequences. One droping to a kneeling back kick then a double split sweep toward the front and pop back into a crouching stance (similar to cha ha dan soo do mahk ki). The form has a strong emphasis on huri combinations. 6 & 7 at first glance seem to be of similar style unlike 1& 2. 1 having more softer movements, 2 having more quick movements.

Interesting and enjoyable. I think they might be better taught at lower (younger) ranks. I don't see senior (as in age) practioners doing the ground sequences into thier golden years. I defintely see So Ho Yun movements and Dam Toi in 6 & 7 which leads me to beleive sequences from So Rim Jang Kwon are in there too but we just dont recognize them.

HI Master Segarra: Could you elaborate on the move you call "double split sweep"? I am not sure that I am familiar with this type of sweep or I haven't heard it under this name. How is the "pop back into a crouching stance similiar to Choi (Cha) Ha dan Soo Do Mahk Ki?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: WEB

Hi Sir, I'll give it a shot. You drop to a kneeling position left knee down and back kick with the right foot. Then the right foot swings all the way to the front as you sit on your left hip and round kick type sweep with the right then immediatly hook back with the right. As you hook back the left foot swings out so you get a scissor action as you roll the hip back toward the right side. Ending momentarily in a crouching position similar to the cha ha dan soo do stance. This is a transition stance which leads into a kneeling punch. It's all done rapid fire. And as you know when GM does it it's a site to see.

Dear Dan: Thanks for the explanation.

Re: Re: WEB

chill sung form

Re: WEB

I'm not sure what you are referencing. But I don't see anything refering to me on that site. That is Sa Bom Nim Steve Diaz's site. The form video clip is of him doing part of chil sung 6 (later half portion).

Master Diaz is a fine and dedicated practioner. He is greatly involved with the World Moo Duk Kwan Newsletter.

So yo HUN?

So Yo Hun???
Master Segarra, i dont think i've heard of this form...would you mind elaborating?

Re: So yo HUN?

So Ho yun is little tiger form. It emulates a tiger cub chasing a small butterfly or bird. I don't have my notes available I have the style written down somewhere and I posted it previously. It came to the MDK by way of the Ship Pal Gey a group of chinese martial artists living in Korea. Similar to the chinatowns in our cities. SInce GM trained in China he spoke chinese and befreinded people in the Ship Pal Gey. He was one of the rare few Koreans that were accepted by him. Students from both groups cross trained and So Ho yun migrated into the MDK curriculum. I was told KJN H.C hwang trained with them for a while learning weaponry etc. KJN can weild a mean double broadsword and spear so I beleive it. They ship pal gey were also involved in the goodwill exhibition in Korea. Various pictures of this are in volume one. The MDK version differs from the SPG version. It's a little more defined in movement and timing as opposed to continuous movement throughout the entire form. In Chinese it is called Shao Fu Yin

You can see a version of it here on Mac's site :

Re: Re: Re: So yo HUN?

Very interesting video, the form is listed as SoRim JangKwon?

There is a section that is identical to one of our organisations technique combinations and some other very familiar motions. The combination in question (Tang Soo Tao #9) was devised or perhaps implemented is a better word by Master Caputo. I have often wondered from which form it came as i have not seen it performed before. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Is this form still practised by many Tang Soo/SooBahk practitioners in the US?

thanks

Re: Re: Re: Re: So yo HUN?

I beleive Master Caputo had a friend or two in the Ship Pal Gey. If I remember reading his book right.

Re: Re: WEB

Please can someone send me the link where I can find the video clip of Sa Bom Nim Diaz doing chil sung 6....

Thank you,
