Hi, my 2 year old daughter has recently started screaming and crying whenever family members/friends walk into a room and its really embarassing. She screams at me that she wants to go home and stands behind me to hide. Is this a phase and how is best to deal with it?

Probably a phase, she probably wants you all to herself and its most likely attention seeking so that you can't pay proper attention to your visitors. I expect any 2 year old worth there salt would find adults nattering away dull as dishwater
