After being dry for 6 months now my daughter who will be 3 in march still poo's in her knickers no matter what i try to bribe her with. She has poo'd on the loo but only a very few times (when we,ve caught her at the right time) and no matter how much congratultions and fuss she gets will get her to do it next time. Any ideas????
Yes I tried a potty at first but she would only wee on the loo. so never used it for ages. She doesn't sit for long so maybe she is frightened. i'll try the potty again can't do any harm..
have you tried buying one of the foam toilet seats it might be less daunting to her when she has to sit for a little while longer to do a poo , or that she might be slightly constipated that can make them less aware of needing a poo ,if not give it time they all learn to do it eventually! good luck!
I agree with Judy, it is often a fear thing and just takes some time before they feel comfortable enough to sit on the toilet to do poo. Some children are ok with wee but they don't like poo splash. They find it scary, it is a very common thing.
Just give lots of positive encouragement and don't push. Good luck I know it is frustrating but it will happen eventually.
My son 3 year old son would only wee when he was sitting on the loo. It was because he was frightened of falling down into the loo. I reasured him by holding onto him and at the same time I got him to put both his hands onto the seat behind himself so that he could hold himself upright.
Thanks to all the people who replied to my problem. My daughter just decided a couple of weeks ago that she would now do it on the loo. I've decided that they just make their minds up one day to do it and no amount of coaxing and bribery will get you there until they decide..
Have you tried sitting your daughter the other way round on the loo so that she faces the cistern? She can then lean forwards and hold onto the cistern.
My daughter felt safer that way.
