I'm a step father that has chosen to provide insurance for my step children. One may soon need heart surgery. Her father is court ordered to provide insurance and has remained in contempt of that order for years. He does not work and the support my wife recieves is paid by a family member.
Even with my insurance the surgery will be expensive and more then likely couse us to have to sacrifice our home and our credit. We'd probably end up in an old trailer somewhere.
What I am wondering is if anyone here can tell me if I can legally use my insurance and force the deductible bills on his name? As it stands any related medical bills will be automatically put in my name. Can anyone provide some insight to this problem?
I am not sure if this would work for you, but if you get health insurance through your company you can check to see if they participate in the Domestic Partner Program, even though you are married and are not domestic partner ***** you may be able to get the son on your insurance. Some companies participate and some don't so it is through your HR you would need to check. As far as the dead beat Dad not providing court ordered support you may want to consider legally changing the boys name to yours and that way he is legally your son without going through and entire adoption process, my stepdad did that to us when we were kids. I don't know what state you live in but you can check into what we have here like healthy NY or Family/Child Health Plus that is Government funded, it is fully comprehensive and very inexpensive. Good Luck with the insurance and I hope your step son has good health in his future
