Two Parent Parenting with sep kids

I just want confirmation on the idea that if parents don't agree on something, that thay should talk in private. For example, last night we came home from having dinner and there were two empty water bottles on the floor. I asked why are they on the floor, my wife said you (me) leave beer can around the house. It turns out that her son left the botteles on the floor. I didn't know who left them before I asked the question, nor was that importent before I made the comment.

The problem as I see it, is that if she didn't agree with my comment, than she should have told me in private, and me not in front of the kids.

We have had this conversation before, she just will not believe this causes any problem with my authority.

What do you think?

Background info:

I have a 10yr old girl.
she has a 11yr old boy and a 16yr old girl.
We have been maried for 4years.
