A former Tippecanoe County correctional officer has been sentenced to three years for his role in conspiring to illegally sell a handgun with an inmate.

LAFAYETTE, IND. (WLFI) — A former Tippecanoe County correctional officer has been sentenced to three years for his role in conspiring to illegally sell a handgun with an inmate.

Bryan Ball's sentence includes six months in the Department of Corrections, one year on Community Corrections and one and a half years on probation.

Ball was the intermediary for a gun transaction between an inmate and another corrections officer Braden Tolle. Deputies found text messages on Tolle's phone discussing the transfer. Court documents said the inmate corroborated the information saying he was trying to buy a gun from Tolle but said he was going to obtain the gun once he was released.

Ball said he knew the transaction was for a gun. He also admitted to providing food and drinks to a jail inmate which is against jail policy.
