Amp advice for small gigs

Hi everyone

I just wanted to know if any of you could help with a bit of advice on small combo amps for the smaller jazz duo gigs that I do.

I have a full 600 watt PA system but this is too much for the smaller restaurant and hotel gigs that I do so I am looking for a small amp of about 60 watts with reverb unit. Ideally I'd like it to be lightweight enough to actually carry around on trains rather than having to drive it around. I'm not all that strong though so it would hvae to be very compact! I have been told that the AER Compact 60 amp is great but it's over £500. I'm considering buying this but would like to get info on other options first.

Any advice would be most welcome, thanks.

Cheers

Re: Amp advice for small gigs

Hi Hannah
The AER Compact 60 MkII is an excellent amp and will do what you want it to. There are cheaper amps out there, but you will be gaining weight and (worst of all) losing sound quality the lower in price you go.
If you play enough gigs to warrent it, go for it.

Best of luck

Re: Amp advice for small gigs

Hi Hannah

I recently used a friend's AER Alpha 40 Watt Acoustic Combo for a restaurant gig and it was terrific. I too have a PA System but will be investing in this unit for my restaurant gigs in the near the future. I have seen these on sale for £600 but places like GAK.CO.UK are selling them cheaper (£399). It has it's own effects and I used a foot switch with it too. You can have a mic and guitar or iPod plugged in.

Although it's a smaller wattage, the sound was great and it's a great size too. As far as I've been able to find out, this really is a great purchase (have you tried ebay?).

Hope that helps.
