Jazz singing grades
Hi all Does anyone know if the Trinity or Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) offer graded singing exams in jazz repertoire? I have a student who wants to do this. I have looked through the syllabuses online and know that you can choose a jazz standard or musical song as one of your song choices alongside classical repertoire when taking grades, but want to know if there are any exams that place more of an emphasis on jazz even through other exam bodies. If not, I'll refer her to rhe Trinity Rock School website as that may be better for her as it's more contemporary. Any advice is most welcome. Thanks Hannah x |

This might be a bit late for you but i know they do jazz piano. I don't think they do singing. Your best bet is the rock school grades like you say. However, since my day they might have started them!! |

Hi Natalie Thanks for your response. You're correct, they do instrumental jazz grades but not voice! Grrrrrr! So, if students enquire I now refer them to Rockschool grades. However, if one wants to do a diploma in jazz singing (or any contemporary vocal style for that matter) then they can be taken through the Trinity or London College of Music exam board. Enjoy the weekend! Thanks again. Hannah xxx |
