hitting the right note
Hi, One of my students has trouble actually hitting notes, sometimes she gets it and other times she is totally off. She doesn't know what she is doing wrong, any ideas? how can I help her to hit the right notes all the time and train her to repeat it correctly. Thanks Kartik |

Hi You could try a sliding note matching exercise. I was in a similar situation recently and found that if I played a note on the piano and asked my student to sing it he couldn't and got quite stressed as well as frustrated. What worked better was playing a note and asking the student to "slide" to it. (either up or down.) This seemed to help him feel the vibrations in his head and he found it easier to know when he was on the wrong note. We're still working on it and it's going to take time; but this exercise has got us going in the right direction! If anyone knows any others I'd love to hear about them! Hope that helps! Karen |

Hi Karen, Many thanks for your advice - that's a great exercise which I will try immediately in her next lesson. Since I can remember I've always been able to hit notes by ear so this isn't an exercise that I personally have had to go through. She's great at sirens, so I guess it's just a case of combining the two to get her to hit the right note. Many thanks once again, much appreciated. Kartik |

Yeah, people always say I'm a good singer but I know that I can only sing good on the right songs. On some songs I'm totally off on the notes. Can anyone help? |

Hi The main thing to do is picture the note and HEAR the note and then sing it. Sometimes when someone cannot pitch a note doing scales, i play the individual note to them and they hit it perfectly. I think its all about concentration, listen to yourself and the backing track and tune in! Good luck Hello everyone as well, i have just joined! Natalie |
