Seeking reconnection
Greetings all. I haven't posted on here in quite some time. I came back because I missed communicating with other Universalists and quite frankly, I need help. I realize now that I have been disconnected from our Lord for some time. This is evident in my life at the moment. My career is going well and I'm on a good health regimen. But other aspects of my life have suffered. Perfectionism, a state of mind I have long struggled with, has crept its way back into my psyche. It has caused great strain on my relationship with my wife and my 2 kids. I find myself getting more demanding, angrier much eaiser when my demands aren't met, and overall less happy. I find myself very upset when the house is messy just by virtue of the fact that I have very young kids. My wife has been trying to avoid me lately. It is a problem, and I recognize it and I want to make it better. I've never lost sight of the fact that God is always with us, and that He loves each and everyone of us. But the personal relationship had diminished greatly. I wish to reconnect with God and other like-minded Universalists. Other than prayer and reading Scripture, does anyone have any other advice? Or personal experience in dealing with separation from God? Any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. |

You said "other than prayer," but I think sometimes our definition of prayer gets in the way. Ideally, maybe it should be in private, on our knees, and in deep reverence--but it can also be spontaneously, and while carrying out some chore amid the hustle and bustle of life. I find that hard to do, but I have the feeling that the better we get at doing that, the closer we'll be to God. A quick, silent prayer of only a few words (and without time for any deep thought) hardly seems worth offering to God, but I've found He sometimes answers such prayers--particularly when they're for simple things like help, patience, etc. When possible, I also find it helpful to meditate (not in the "new age" sense of emptying your mind and achieving some altered state of consciousness, but in the sense of stepping back and taking the time to really think.) G-d Bless. |

perhaps this is too obvious, but the way I have found to strengthen my walk with the Lord is to keep Him in the centre of my thoughts as much as is possible. This is accomplished by talking to Him( inwardly) about EVERYTHING that happens to you and in you throughout your day. If we have a valued companion, we try to include that person in everything we are involved in,not leave them sitting silently in the corner. So it is with the Lord. Get in the habit of bringing your thoughts to Him, bringing Him each problem, thanking Him for some good thing you have seen or experienced, seeking assurance, advice, testing whether the things you are contemplating would be pleasing to him - that sort of thing. It doesn't have to be more than a 'thank you Lord' or a 'please help me in this Lord', the purpose it is to keep your spiritual eye on Him in all that you think and say and do. Reading Scripture and private time for talking things through with Him and prayer have their place too, but just living your day with Him included in it - that can bring you back into the sunshine, so I have found. |

That's pretty much what I was trying to say (and I think you said it better .)Thank you pawz. |

thought of something else too. If we seek to treat everything around us( not just people) with kindness, it fosters a more gentle response within us when we need to deal with problems. I know from my own experiences that it isn't always that simple - but if we care more for others, we care less for ourselves. That too brings us closer to the Lord and the big ME is not so able to turn our eyes away from the spiritual and toward the injustices and unfairness of this man-made world. |

This is something that more of us should discuss but most will not admit to our actions that are seperate from God; would that all of our actions be governed by Him. I have found that if in prayer, I take the time to listen to God and pray the words that He gives me that my prayer is more effective in meeting my needs and I am better equipped to face my problems. That and never trying to hide anything from Him. |
