Yamaha RY30: Is it possible to control voice parameters in realtime via sysex?
Hi Sealed, I always enjoy your detailed synth examinations, great! I've got a question about the RY30. I haven't tried out your sounddiver adaption (i'm not that familiar with sounddiver), but if i understand correctly, this lets you control the voice parameters of ry30 remotely. When changing parameters, are these changes sent in realtime to the ry30? I'm asking since i'd would like to control the synth parameters in realtime (eg while a pattern is playing), via a midi controller using sysex. I tried using realtime midi cc changes effectively, but the ry30 implementation makes it quite difficult. It's too bad that the midi cc changes are only for the first note that follows the cc change.. If you could somehow store and retrieve your last cc changes and insert them 'before' every note on... In programming terms: The note on could be used as a trigger to retrieve and insert the cc's and finally the original note on. Coming back to my question, do you think it's possible to control the voice parameters like filter eg rates etc.. in realtime via sysex messages? kind regards, David |

Thanks, David, for your comments on my site. I'm glad to know you are a deep RY30 user too. In short, it's not possible to use realtime control on RY30. It only responds to one patch data. And as you exactly pointed out, the wheel does work but only at the note on. If RY had some NRPNs and some more synth waveforms (and a ring modulation, I wish), it could have been a very comtemporary drum synthesizer.... |
