MT-32 with PG-1000?
Hi there Thanks for creating a great information website. I bought a MT-32 after listening to some of your mp3. Now I wish to know if it's possible to use Roland's PG-1000 with it. I know someone that is selling it for a hundred bucks. Vielen Dank! Tomas |

Hi, Tomas! Thank you for your comments! According to the MT-32 manual, it can be edited with PG-1000. I hope you get it cheap, and it would be useful when you came across a D-50/550 at a reasonable price. |

On the MIDI Implementation part, page 9, it says: "ADRESS MAPPING OF PARAMETERS (compatible with D-50 (PG-1000))". Does it mean that PG-1000 works exclusively with D-50/550? Ah, I wish to know that... The manual mentions a PR-100, but it's a sequencer. By the way, which hardware sequencer would you recomend to use with MT-32? Thanks a lot, Tomas |

According to the manual, MT-32 and D-50 shares many SysEx messages, so you can edit MT-32 with PG-1000 for most of the parameters. But their compatibility is not complete. Some parameters would not work properly. For example, it seems you can't select MT-32's PCM No. 127 as D-50/PG-1000 use PCM No. 1-100 only. PG-1000 would be useful as long as you recognize some limitation and use it together with some PC editor. PR-100 seems to be a simple realtime-record-playback-type sequencer. It uses the old QuickDisk as data storage. I would recommend better hardware sequencers. I myself once used and liked KAWAI Q-80, which has good pattern-sequencing ability. More recent ones like YAMAHA RM1x etc. would have much better functionalities. |

hello sealed, thanks for the info regarding sequencers. i think i will get a tr-626 that i saw for $25. have you ever tried to use it as a 16-step sequencer for the mt-32? it'd be nice to experiment triggering its sounds mixed with the ones of the drum machine. also you can do many things because it has trigger, tape sync, lots of outputs and so on. and it's cheap! thanks, tomas |

Sorry for being late.... I think TR can be a handy step sequencer, but the notes you can use might be limited. I hope you can enjoy creating some sequencing patterns - sometimes limitation can fuel creativity. |
