MT-32 Reverse Panpot
No-one seems to know why the the panpot implementation in the MT-32 is reversed from from what is laid out in the MIDI specification. A mistake perhaps? I couldn't find any other Roland synths which pan in reverse. Any insight? |

Hi, Cloudschatze! Thank you for your information. I'm looking at MT-32 manual and it shows the pan parameter ranges 0 to 14 (R->L). And I looked at SoundDiver's editor - it's knob shows 0 at the left and 14 at the right - it's a little confusing. Is it that you mean MT-32's SysEx document is misprinted - 0 is the left and 14 is the right? Currently my MT-32 is not plugged to my computer, but I'll see. I'd be glad if any other MT-32 user adds any information. |

I apologize. By MIDI specification, I meant the MMA guidelines. The MT-32 panpot implementation is reversed, in this respect. |

Well, I had my question answered by an individual who has used the MT-32 since it's introduction. He states that (according to Roland) the panpot implementation was flawed, but that Roland had no intention of fixing it (probably due to market penetration). For the sake of compatibility, this "flaw" is also present in the MT-32 variants. Thanks to anyone who may have looked into this! |

Thanks Cloudschatze for more information. I hooked my MT-32 to my Mac, and confirmed that the panpot works inversely. I added this information on the main site with your credit. Thanks again! |

Heh. No need to credit me for anything - it's in the manual! |
