Sequences
Hi Sealed, love the site. It's got everything I like, clear navigation, lots of new synth stuff and MP3 examples! It's the examples I wanted to ask you about actually. The sequences you use are great, they're very Minimalistic and have generative qualities to them. Do you play them into a sequencer or do you use software to create them? Cheers J |

Hi, John! Thank you for your encouraging comments. I just use OPCODE Vision's simple random arpeggiator. Then I cut and paste the same arpeggiated sequence to create complexities. Finally I add some aftertouch data, using YAMAHA MEP4 MIDI Event Processor. It translates incoming notes into delayed aftertouch, and this creates unpredictable modulation effects. I once tried to use the software M for randomized sequences, but for now I like simpler way with Vision. |

Thanks for the reply. It makes a lot of sense with what I'm hearing. There's a lot work to be done with random sequences guided by human choices. Ah, Opcode, those were the days. There was Galaxy, Sound Diver, Unisyn and MidiQuest to choose from. How things have changed since OSX! Now I have a G5 for the virtual synths but still keep a G3 Powerbook to look after any hardware over two years old! I also notice you've managed to get some very interesting sounds from the Kawai K4. A digital classic, I'll never sell mine! I love to simply stack up at least ten oscillators in the Multi section and detune them. Using the right combination of waves it can create some fantastic timbres, almost like Absynth. Cheers, j |

Yes, I think 'human choice' with random arpeggiator is a nice expression for my sequences. I'm now working with G4 for 5 years, and many things have changed these in the meantime. We'll even see the Pentium era.... Thanks for your comments about K4, and I'm glad to know you're the owner too. 32 Oscillators, resonant filter, interesting waveforms - K4 is a digital classic, I agree. Absynth is a very complex synth, but K4 does create complex textures as well. It's an interesting attempt to create sounds with K4 that are comparable with Absynth. There is always good possibilities. |
