Panorama Countdown- ON TO YOUR MARKS!!!! (THE HEAT IS ON)

ON TO YOUR MARKS!!!
107 DAYS TO GO THE COUNTDOWN IS ON and the big show is now being prepared for. With two big name bands starting their panorama practices as early as next week monday the 28th.
Angel Harps who would be looking to elude the THREE PEAT from the two time defending champions Commancheros. Also On their marks is Pan Wizards who would be looking to redeem themselves from their horrendous occupation last year. Inside Sources say that this is the first time the band would actually commence practice sessions so early. The word from inside sources that most of the bands will be starting their tunes in earnest. I think we are in for a competitive year.
Other inside sources say that Commancheros who is looking to put their mark on the history books this year with a "THREE PEAT" is leaving "no Stone unturned".
they will begin practice as soon as possible and they are "doing it big with over 80 pannists"! from their massive recruitment drive. their would be alot to live up to after arranger Andre Greendige indicating they are going for a "FIVE YEARS IS A ROW" win on stage panorama 2007.

We would also see the return of Rainbow city all stars into ompetition who is still to finally come to a conclusion on a possible Arranger.

This year is lining up to be one of the most competitive years ever. Everyband with something to prove. Commacheros would be looking to add their name to history with a three a "HAT TRICK" since 1983. there is only one band in grenada that "allegedly" achieve this feat. City symphony in the late seventies with kenneth teloti hood at the helm.

WHO WILL IT BE?

Both New dimension and Angel harps will be looking to elude Commancheros from what may seem an uphill task for many critics and Judges alike, whose views are that commancheros is "on fire!". Would their flame continue to burn this year?
New Dimension is set to start their practices this month. Insiders reveal that The Stalwart arranger says this year he is "coming for them", so it would be left to see where they fall for which they cannot be overlooked for the No.1 spot.
One of the most progressive young band in the land DIGICEL FLORIDA WEST SIDE SYMPHONY would be looking on improving their fifth place aquisition in last year's panorama with their tune "heating it up". They have come a mighty long way to be near the competitive zone.
One of the Biggest surprises of last year panorama is the emergence of CapBank Pan Lovers who placed fourth in last year's competition. they would be looking to remain in the competitive zone and looking to improve on this.
the Bar is high and the heat is definitely on!
On their Marks! who will defy commancheros their fame?

Heay Mann!! Did you know that Toyota All Stars from Labourie St Paul's won Panorama before Commancheros? Yes we did. Did you know the Arranger? He came from commancheros. 2nd and 1st.

Panorama fever! Do we have it? Yes we do! Panorama fever! Do we have it? Yes we do!

80 days to go until the big day and some of the bands are still slow off the mark. What this could be attributed to, you ask. Over confidence? No! School’s examinations? Yes! Some bands are still slow to react due to examinations currently on the way. When asked how much does school exams interfere with the progress of arrangements a leading steel band stalwart had this to say. “We generally try to heat things up as soon as the end of June by then most exams would have been through and the parents will now allow their children to enter the pan yard at weekdays past 8.00 pm. We try to accommodate every child with their preparations for their studies as we believe Education is first and foremost, if you do well in the classroom it reflects in the Pan house.

Many Bands are yet to publicize their Title of their tunes for this year’s competition. Nevertheless Angel Harps will be doing “My Friend Clive” which would be a tribute to the late Great Clive Bradley. Many will remember “Clive” for some of the greatest pieces ever to be played on pan, the Master of Harmonies…so sweet you want to cry. The”Picasso of Pan”. Would this title bring any threat to the incumbents? Or would it be the direct borrowing of some of the master’s greatest works do the trick. As stated in the release on this website (Clarkson says that “Harps' arrangement would quote two of his more famous winning arrangements -“Rebecca” and “High Mas”.)
How would this work we ask. Would this involve the copy and pasting of the masters arrangements into Clarkson’s “My Friend Clive”? Where do we draw the line between “Plagiarisms” and “Tributes”?
“High Mas” one of the master’s most brilliant arrangements had interpretations from two classics: “in a Monastery’s Garden” and Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” what is an interpretation you ask?
a. An explanation or conceptualization by a critic of a work of literature, painting, music, or other art form; an exegesis.
b. A performer's distinctive personal version of a song, dance, piece of music, or role; a rendering.

So clearly the Master did nothing wrong it is merely his interpretation. So what would be wrong in “quoting two of his more famous winning arrangements”? A “Tribute” or simply put “stealing!” One would only have to wait and hear the extent if any of the borrowings by Clarkson.

Insiders reveal that Pan Wizards rendition would be entitled “Hands of Fire”! Produced in Trinidad and Tobago and would be sung by a leading Calypsonian. Whether these hands would be enough to carry them out of the trenches one would have to wait 80 days to see. After being in the competitive zone since the dawn of the New Millennium one could clearly see a decline in quality in last year’s performance.

Hey Robert K Cadet I am aware of Toyota all stars victory however since the hurricane I have lost all my records of panorama competitions before 1983 so if you have such info you can publish it for the benefit of the readers and I. Thank you.

The journey to the Big Stage has started with most steel orchestras practicing their Panorama Tune, It will be a lot of Heat at the National Stadium this year, with two steel Orchestras playing Smokey's tune "Pan on Fire" another steel orchestra will be playing Quacko's "Heating It Up"so panlover can look forward to an exciting Panorama this year!! Who will be the Champs of Pan this Year????

The Flames are rising!! As we enter the premier of the season kicked off Last Friday at Tanteen. With 61 days left!we can expect Panorama launch to be soon or should be.Many bands are increasing on the amount of time they put into practices. First off let me comment on the panorama tunes I heard so far on the radio. “Heating it up” to be played by Digicel Florida West Side Symphony is full of potential destined to be a hit this panorama. The tune comprises of various melodic surprises, catchy phrases, and rhythm patterns which would enhance any performance on pan, If! arranged properly, I was impressed. The Incumbents tune was “So, So” for my liking, perhaps, my expectations was too high, After all they are Defending Champions vying for a “Three Peat”. It would be left to seen what Andre Greenidge and Cecil Noel have up their sleeves.

Unconfirmed Reports indicate that the Grenlec Rainbow City All Stars is once again out of Competition! A serious blow for the pan community of Grenada, and for the band itself. Lack of Leadership, Sponsorship, players, and an Arranger are just some of the problems that plague this band. Oh!.... and I forgot the lack of a Governing body for pan. The “Grenada Steel Band Association” needs to take some of the blame for the band’s problems. The lack of vision and governance over the Steel bands in Grenada is absolutely appalling. This so called “Association” is only active when its time to receive subsidies from Government , then which they put on a substandard panorama launch to deceive those on the outside that pan in Grenada is progressing . And as soon as prize monies are paid the “Doldrums” kick in. (I could go on but there’s only so much space in this column.)Look out for an extensive review, after panorama on this “ASSociation”.

Double Victories seem to be the most vulgar with Pan, no Band since 1983 has gone the extra mile, and grab at an accolade that is worth exalting. Panorama in Grenada is Dominated by two bands they both have steal the other’s Laurels. Now it’s the dawn of a new Adversary, Cable & Wireless Commancheros has ascended from being the ALSO RANS TO CHAMPIONS, a force to be reckoned with. So if we were to use History as an indicator we can put our monies and safely bet against the incumbents, we can put our monies on Angel Harps & New Dimension. Pan Wizards has also stopped a “Hat Trick” from New Dimension in 2004, But! I did mention safe bets, the odds here as of present is” 6:1”.
So the Question remains , who will it be in 2008? 60 days left ,my bet! Ha! Ha! stay tuned! And keep reading as the time draws nigh.
