Current conditions
For all the Canadian USW/Good Year Tire workers I am sad for your current condition. I write this e-mail with some experience with your current plight. See, I worked for GTR and URW in New Bedford, Massachusetts plant during the 70's and 80's. I am well aware of your struggle and your resentment about your plant closings/job losses. This exactly what happened to our plant. However, I would like to somehow inpire you and spread some light at end of the tunnel. Like you, I was faced with the realization of losing employment and financial stability. As you, I was devistated by the announcement of the news of my plant closing. However, after many years of struggle I returned back to school, received a college degree and once again aquired financial stability. So, in essence, What I am trying to say is this; "you will rebound and recover"... Although, I have learned from the past about global economics and organized labor. I hope to never, ever, be in a situation like that ever again. I hope and pray that all of you find financial stability in your lives as well. In addition, now that it is all over and done with in my life. I sadly say, I will never, ever knowingly by a Good Year product. I will refraion from organized labor and am saddend (but not surprised) by the actions of the U.S. GTY/USW workers. The URW did the same thing to me and my peers with the Massachusetts plant closing. In closing, I say best wishes, good luck, and I hope for quick turn around in each and everyones life. Everything happens for a reason and I hope Corporate America realizes what it is doing. It would be a terrible thing if they had to come running back home for a reliable, efficient and productive work force!!! |
