The next 3 years!!!
Being one of the workers that saved enough money to weather this strike,I would like to suggest to all active members returning this week, PLEASE start you a fund at your credit union or bank! In 3 years it will probably be worse than it was this time & "OUR" best defense is to have the funds to hold out till we get what we want next time. Our contract will expire in the winter months next time & that isn't always a good time to be looking for a job! As for "OUR" Canadian brothers & sisters,I for one will be asking what the H**L they pulled this crap on you for!!! They didn't say anything about your part of this agreement at the meeting. That is truly sorry behavior on the unions part! And to all of you that have been screwed over,I wish you the best & understand your dismay in this. Good luck & may GOD bless each of you with a better job than you had! |

Best of luck UC man - your local stood with Canada in Pittsburgh, they have nothing to apologise for. I hope that the USW is able to create a fund to provide for medical benefits for US members who are on strike for longer then 3 months. This seemed to be the biggest flaw this time around - the American leadership was afraid of people crossing the line in larger numbers once the coverage ran out. The company was also counting on this. It's a shame that you guys didn't have something in place to prevent it as we were very close to achieving our goals. Here's hoping next time there is no need for a strike, but if strike we must then I hope the American USW leadership is better prepared for a long one. |

don't tell me STEEL couldn't pay health care for a month to hold the troops, I hope next time we're better prepared, sadly Canada will not be there. I'd like to thank U.C., Danville and Tyler for standing up in Pittsburg on behalf of Canadians,if only more understood what a union is supposed to be |

Well I guess it's only 2 1/2 years. My union steward told me last night that the expiration date of "OUR" new contract is still in July! Isn't that a bite in the rear!! |
