Sad but true that UC voted in the contract??? I think it is a good thing and hope that it is true! I hope that all other area union locals vote it in as well. I think they got the best deal that they are going to get. This has dragged on long enough. It's time to put this to an end and get back to buliding dependable, reliable products and send the scabs packing. |

Yes very sad, they could have gotten more of what they wanted, if they just hung tough a little while longer. Instead of giving in. This is what Goodyear wants , to break down the union, it seems to be working for them |

If this is a two tier contract as Goodyear says ("a competitive 'new wage' structure" or something like that), then the union has sold out the new hires, sold out us, and the union, will be a losing "business" because the new hires will eventually get rid of the USW onw way or another. They said they would not bring two tier wages back to us for a vote, and I sure hope they haven't. |

It's not a two tier wage structure contract, it is a six tier wage structure system. It will only effect them for approx the first 4 years of their employment and then they will be right up there where they should be. They also have this laid out to them when they hire in and they have a CHOICE of whether or not to take it. No one has sold anyone out! I think it was the best agreement that was and could have been reached with Good Year at this point. It is time to return to work. There has to be some give and take on both sides or nothing would ever get settled and our locals have to return to work! I think they have done a fine job and can return with heads held high! |

Again with the new hire being screwed, Maybe be thankfull that retire's arent the ones being screwed, Would u rather see some young man or woman working and proving the deserve to be there or someone thats done there 30yrs get nothing? Yes I hate the fact about new hires getting less, but when i started i was making what 65% or something like that. 6 yrs in and i am makeing full pay do u realling think that i am really worried about what i was making back then now? And yes I have walked the Line from day one and if need be will keep doing do. If the New hires cant see that the only reason that there will ever be a new hire at GY is becouse of our UNITY then maybe they shouldnt be there to begen with. |

we newbies are on a structured increase also. we start at 70% and are not to rate for 3 years. what's the difference? and as stated, we knew this when we came in and made that choice, still better than alot of jobs in the private sector. |

The main difference I see in the new hire provision is that instead of a 5% increase every 6 months, they have to wait 3 years,& then get a 30% raise. I hired in under the 70% plan myself. It was only $12.86 when I hired in. If someone has no skills(tradesman or an education in something technical)where else will they get $13.00 to start? With a chance to make 30% more in 3 years? Not a lot of opportunity to do this in most communities. The second big difference I see in it is,instead of a 30 day probationary period, they have to work 320 hours. Most companies have somewhere between 60-120 days for their probation period. I myself think this was a change for the better here on this point. I have seen a lot of people Goodyear would have been better off without make the 30 days, but I doubt would have been able to make 320 hours before showing their true intentions & work ethics. All the work has to be done everyday,if you get a couple people that aren't worth having on the payroll, what they won't,or don't do has to be done by someone else, that already has a job to do.So they wind up doing their job & part of the other persons as well, just to get it done! Maybe this will help them screen the "keepers" a little better. If you hire in willing to do a good job for good pay then the 320 hours will be of no concern to you. And looking forward to a 30% pay increase is definatly an incentive that will help keep you motivated to do your best. I have never worked in a facility where the senior people are more willing to help you succeed than at Goodyear. As long as you are respectful to them and show a willingness to learn they will bend over backwards to help you! A tire plant is a very dangerous place to work & you need those that have been there a while to watch over you to keep you as safe as you can be. So to that end,if what we voted on would have pushed people already working there backwards(in pay or benefits)we would have done them wrong! But it only applies to those hiring in from now on,so they will be told the conditions of employment, the payscale & the benefits & given the choice to accept it or not. My guess is most will accept it when given the choice. I did & I don't regret it. Over the next few years there will be a lot more workers retiring so we will see how the potential "new hires" deal with this. As in the past with Goodyear,if they see a problem getting enough good workers to hire in because of some of the details, then they will change them as they go. |
