chinchilla dust/sand

Found out that chinchilla dust is made from concrete. Anyone know of a cheap substitute? Do we really need the expensive stuff from the pet shop? Any replies appreciated. John

Re: chinchilla dust/sand

Hi John, I don't know of any alternative dust however there are a few online pet suppliers that have dust at cheaper costings to pet stores. What I also do to economise is sift the dust baths and in this way the dust can be used on several occasions. Will keep my ears open and if I hear of any cheaper alternative I will let you know. Take care, Liz CCL
