Can i keep two castrated males with a female ?

Hi

My names Donna & i wondered if you can answer my question regarding keeping my chinchillas together.

I have a male & female in the same cage, She had a baby 6 weeks ago. I am not planning on having more babies so intend to get the daddy castrated in a few weeks.

My question is i would like to keep the baby but although they get on great at the moment i am under the impression the two males will fight when the babies older if kept in the same cage,Is there a way of keeping the 2 males & a female all in the same cage (we will have a big enough cage so that is no problem) with out them fighting, If we get both males castrated will this stop the possibility of fighting?

If you know the answer to this i would be really grateful as i would like to keep the baby but don't want him to get harmed.

Regards
Donna

Re: Can i keep two castrated males with a female ?

Hi Donna, It is not a wise idea to keep two males with a female as they will keep vying for her attention. Two males without a female would be fine together. Castration does not make any difference hence the competition between the boys. I have two males and a female which I let out for "playtime" together however the two males live separately. (Also, when they are out and about during the exercise time there are plenty of places for them to hide if they so wish to). I hope this helps. Take care, Liz
