Does my Chinchilla have Listeriosis ?

Since yesterday my 2 year old Female chinchilla has been refusing to eat or drink.
Recently i have also noticed she has become increasingly bad tempered with the other Chinchillas and myself.

She has also lost a fair bit of weight but i am not sure if that is due to lack of eating? ( I have been feeding her watered down food through, so she is still getting water & food. Not that she likes it very much!! )

She is constantly laying on her side in the day but at night wakes up a bit and plays... not for long though!

YEsterday i put her in a cage by herself to get some sleep as the other two were making a fuss of her & she was getting increasingly more angry.

There is no chance she should be pregnant as she ;ives with a female and a male that has been done. And i have checked her teeth and they are fine.

please let me know if you think she has this and if she should have a visit to the vet?

Re: Does my Chinchilla have Listeriosis ?

Hi Alexis, Please take your chin to the vet as soon as you can because you seem to have ruled out various problematic areas. Unfortunately our team are not qualified in diagnosing health problems and with type of situation we always advise the chin owner to take their little one to the vet and in your case you can hopefully nip the problem "in the bud".

Have the three chins lived together for long or is this a new arrangement? Please let us know what the vet says. Take care, Liz CCL

Re: Does my Chinchilla have Listeriosis ?

Yes, the male has been living with her for the 2 years and the baby one.

i have taken her to the vets and they are doing an Xray as they think it may be a dental problem?

i will keep you updated

Re: Does my Chinchilla have Listeriosis ?

The vets have found she had trapped wind!!
i also got them to do a dental check & they said there was only a hint of her having bad roots which wont affect her for a few years yet!
The vet i took her too was very good & even contacted a specialist to see what he thought!

thanks for the advice.
