my Gizmo just pasted away and his brother Chupa is sad and making little squeeking noises

We just lost our lil Gizmo, to diabetes. his brother Chupa has been making squeaky noises and just laying around. We've been giving him alot of attention and i made him a little hay toy. he played with it for a little bit, then just jumped around his cage like he was looking for something....Gizmo.... my question is should i get another chinchilla or would that be a bad idea. Chupa is about 2 1/2 years old.

Hi Shannon, I am so sorry to hear your sad news! Losing a chin is never easy. Chupa will most certainly be missing his brother and I would strong advise you to get another chin. Chinchillas are funny little creatures, they do mourn and I have know chins to die of a broken heart! Please keep us posted. Take care, Liz CCL

Re: my Gizmo just pasted away and his brother Chupa is sad and making little squeeking noises

thankyou, for commenting to me I just found out that someone had dropped off 15 chinchillas at our local humane society. I was TOLD there is 5 left and that if someone doesn't get them they will be euthanized, I'm getting my kids packed up and going to be heading over there right now. Hopefully they will have a male cause i don't know how to handle having babies. If this info I received is true. Please let someone know that you might know that lives in ventura county, california. That these lil guys are going to be put down. I'll repost after I come back to let you know if there are in fact chins at the camarillo shelter.
