my chinchilla does not want to eat

hello friends of beauiful rodents, CHARITY my male chinchilla was playing with me outside its cage and while playing l accidently stepped on him after that stressful moment l found out that hes gone off his pellets
- l took it to the vets near me they checked him and said l was to offer him 5x a day oxbow critial care meds but before each dose (which he laps up) give/offer him his normal pellets which he does not want to take, my question is on my chinchilla after that accident with me,Why does my pet not want to eat its pellets?
the vet says his teeth are fine and everything else including playing and sand bathing and hes started playing more too daniel

Re: my chinchilla does not want to eat

Hi hardy, i am sure you just have a chin who is a fussy eater as long as there is fresh hay and pellets and water your chin will start eating the pellets again,I don't think your chin will get addicted to the oxbow critical care meds, but for your piece of mind check with your vet,my advice is to slowly reintroduce the pellets back into her diet, good luck Ray Milne

Re: my chinchilla does not want to eat

Hi Hardy, One way you could try and introduce the pellets back into you chins diet is to crush them in a small amount of fruit (low fat) yoghurt, water, cranberry juice or camomile tea. Perhaps with them being a little softer he will start eating them again. You can then start lessening the liquids gradually until your chin is able to eat dry pellets. Please keep up informed on how you get on. Take care, Liz CCL

Re to liz

thanks liz for your concern and information about how to get my charity to eat slowly - l have found from rays remarks to me on this site that yes my chin is a fussy eater and l belive that every chin has its own unique personallity! thats what makes us humans who have one or two care for then so much (if only chins could speak then when they are ill we could know the cause of any illness they aquire) but they dont so - sorry l am getting a bit side tracked here what l am getting down to is this l have crushed some pellets for my chin with the back of a spoon/cup and hes eating a bit of them (praise the lord) its, well when l see him eating it makes me fell like l have cared in the right way but l am still weening him of his meds and l pray that he eats his meds sooner or later without my assistance
love and peace to you daniel thanks

Re: my chinchilla does not want to eat

Hi Hardy, Great News that Charity is eating the crushed pellets - it won't be long now and she will be back to her normal self and diet. I too wish they could talk, it would be such a huge help and would stop us worrying about them so much. Hardy, please keep us posted on how things are going. Take care, Liz CCL
