Message:   I am indeed surpised at the hue and cry that has erupted because of the degradation of Goa. Indeed I admit that the corrupt Government is partially to blame because of fudging the maps, figures and everything else to sell the place to the highest bidder a fact that has been well documented and written about.

However, I do believe that it is also a vast proportion of Goans who have been lured by mega bucks being offered by multinationals that has prompted the sale of large tracts of their "Bhat". I guess any blue blooded goan who is willing to die for his language should be equally concerned to see his land slipping under his/her feet. Indeed for those who have had so much to say about how and what we speak seem to be totally uninterested to the transfer of land ownerships from Kamats and Dsouzas to Kapoors and Yadavs/..... Indeed we may have to someday think of making Punjabi the official language of the state the way things are going.

It would be interesting to see what percentage of land deveoped in Goa has been through private treaty.

It has been boom times for developers and bhatkars alike....Things have never been so good for them...How can the aldeia (wealth) of goa be as a consequence of the rape of its landscape.....

Rather than blaming politicians I do believe the onus should be on goans to refrain from selling land to developers to construct these high rise eyesores in the name of development only to fill their pockets with ill gotten gains...

Is this the goa we want to leave to our children.... Do we not possess even a strand of moral fabric to resist the temptation of so called development....

I think its time we as goans take responsibility for our actions. We do know the difference between right and wrong ...Are our values so shallow that we are willing to compromise our homes, families and lifestyles to the highest bidders ....

On a closing not I remember the narrative about the British told to me when I was a child ...Its something worth thinking about ///.....

When the British came to India they had the bible and the Indians had the land ...after a decade it was the Indians who had the bible and the british who owned the land ....

A number of parallels can be drawn to present day goa nd Konkani.......Something for goans to think about
