Re: Re: Re: Re: Palace Vaults Hotel

There is no Hayes on the list of Publicans. The only non Welsh name amongst the H's is Harwood and he kept the Palace Vaults for many years

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Palace Vaults Hotel

Hi Meirion, Thanks for all your help. I'm an historian as well and have had a local history book published. I wonder now if they only worked for the manager or perhapses they managed another pub in the town, but my grandmother told my mother they managed a hotel. One always wishes that one had been older enough to get more information from grandparents. I'm very proud of my Welsh ancestry and the family say that because my sister is dark skinned, they say it was the Welsh background. My mother they called Olive because of her complection.Sorry I do ramble on. Keep up the good work. Cheers Ray

An afterthought!

Dear Mr. King,

Further to you second query regarding your ancestor J.C.Hayes, I would suggest that you subscribe to Ancestry.com and try and trace him and his daughter, b.1880, on the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census. With a foreign (i.e. English name) like Hayes it should be fairly easy to locate in a town in which over 90% of the residents were of Welsh stock.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
