Cerebral palsy
Hi Just wondering, does anyone have experience regarding students with cerebral palsy? Specifically children. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks Michelle |

Hi.. I would suggest talking to the child and the parents to see how the child differs in behaviour and what medical/social needs he or she has. Ensure a parent stays with the child in each class and also ensure that the instructor knows exactly what any needs are and how to deal with them. It may also be a good idea to have a session with the rest of the class explaining about special needs and how people should be treated if they are different in any way. Sandra |

Hi Michelle, We have trained a young girl wth Cerebral palsy .At the time her step mother was my assistent instructor. the girls hand movements were very good but her leg movement was restricted. The aproach we took was to look to gentle stretching and good foot positioning with low level kicks. We had the same approach to paterns ,all kicks delivered low level . She was able to spar with partners using hands only. However she learned to effectively use the low level kicking in self defence drills. Her step mother has her own club and she trains with her. I feal that all instructors should make resonable adjustments in the interest of the student. I hope what i have said has been of some help Best Wishes Ron Denny 4th Degree White Tiegr Tae Kwon Do |

Hi Everyone Thanks for the advice. Suppose it's all common sense really but good to hear from people with experience. I'm sure the whole experience will be good for Catherine. Thanks Michelle |
