FLABBY HOFFMAN PRESENTS ICONOCLASTS ANONYMOUS

(Post Your Comments and Read the Comments of Others Below in Flabby's Forum)

The Oxford Dictionary defines an “iconoclast” as someone that attacks cherished beliefs.  If the beliefs are truly worthy and objectively beneficial, then the iconoclast might simply be a nuisance.  However what if the cherished beliefs are destructive?  The iconoclast then assumes the role of visionary.  Many would say today that our society’s cherished beliefs are horribly misguided.  Wars without a reason, education systems woefully ineffective, pollution and global warming run rampant, SUV’s and urban sprawl, materialism, conformity, the culture of comfort, prison populations exploding, lack of health insurance, corporate domination of our socializing and informational devices…on and on it goes.  But as we all know, to publicly go against “the powers that be” can be destructive, dangerous and viewed as anti-social behavior.  People can be made to feel intimidated or even “abnormal” by those belligerent ideologues who seem to always hate those that are different than them and who always seem to have the power.  That’s why Flabby Hoffman has created Iconoclasts Anonymous.

Now we have a place to go to voice our attacks against “the cherished beliefs” and view those of others with viewpoints and mindsets similar to yours.  It is empowering when you vent and find the unconditional empathy of those that support your views.  Perhaps you’ll even find a sponsor to counsel you when things seem bleak…and things these days for the iconoclast can frequently seem very bleak indeed.  So go ahead and post.  Voice your opinions.  Any topic or subject is fine so long as it is legal.  Also, while any legal adult subject matter is open territory, even mature themes, please use as much restraint as possible regarding the worst of the swear words (especially those containing the letter “u”).  It’s better for learning how to express yourself as well as it allows all people to view and share and benefit from your experience and thoughts.  Those not fitting into these guidelines will be banned.

The first step is admitting what you are: so say it with me…My name is Flabby Hoffman (insert your name here), and I am an Iconoclast.

Message:   I'm not one to make waves or step on the viewpoints of other people, but before you go on bashing the "Bush regime" or comparing us to Communists and Nazis, I just wanted to make one point that you failed to identify in your newsletter:

George Washington and Thomas Jefferson both did not want us to become a government of political parties. They saw such behavior as the means to tear our country apart. Washington even stated so in his farewell address. However, today's Americans -- youth in particular -- are so excited to have something to protest and hate that they will look no further back than this century to make their points. "One-party State" doesn't neccessarily mean Communism, nor is our country going to become such a thing. Hatred of one political party by another here is like racism: hating without really knowing why simply for the sake of hate. The finger-pointing will keep the parties alive.

Now that I've been enough of an ass, I just wanted to add that you're newsletter was hilarious. The humor is spot-on
