Cloth Vs disposables

I have always used depends disposables normally or molicare/abeana x-plus for when i go to a party or whenever i will be drinking lots of fluids, can the cloth replace these without having to replace them more often?

I usually go through about 4 depends per day nominal, and would like to pay a little more up front to get the cloth to save a little on the environment, and im only 24 and have a pretty active life, and the disposables are great for at work there easy to smuggle to the restroom to change.

i would think that the normal cloth has about 1/4 of the absorbancy of depends overnight?

Re: Cloth Vs disposables

Hi--

My opinions are based in about a year of needing to use diapers, day and night. If you are looking for the best protection, cloth is your best bet, hands down. I am male, and have found that especially when sitting, side leaks with disposables are a problem if you void larger amounts suddenly, as I do. Side leaks, of course, are a regular occurrence at night with any disposable I have tried, and I have tried them all, including the high-end ones. Not a problem with good cloth diapers, as cloth is all around.

My recommendation is for gauze cloth---a bit more costly, but if comfort and protection are high on your list, then these are the way to go. Often in the day I will use a cloth pre-fold with Dura-tex nylon or ACD snap-on pants, as either will provide some "breathing" for coolness. Night-weight prefolds with a full (non-snap) vinyl pant is the best protection I have found, although I still use a washable underpad in case of leaks (usually if I sleep on my stomach...).

Some disposables are more discreet (i.e., require less adjustment of wardrobe for discretion/concealment), but they tend to be less protective than I wish. I believe that the "disposables are more absorbent" argument is a myth; cloth is more reliable and comfortable, if slightly less convenient. I had to do some travelling last summer, and did use Abena X-Plus for the trip---adequate, but much less comfortable and required extra care to protect against leaks at night.

I'm sure others have different experiences and ideas, but that's my 2 cents..

Another thought---

A day weight ACD gauze diaper has about TWICE the absorbency of a Depend Maximum Protection, in my experience----see why I'm sold on cloth?

Re: Cloth Vs disposables

i am for cloth, preferably flat fold. i feel birdseye is the best choice.disposables are best for traveling or when ill.laundering them in my view should include extra rinsing and using distilled vinegar in a rinsing removes detergents.
