minor rant

Hi folks. Does anybody else feel that they are being ripped off when purchasing diapers/nappies? I have been trawling the web for a good price and have noticed that I could buy a pack of 12 baby sized diapers (which would only be good as a liner) for £23 (About $43). These 24 inch terry squares are also available at £1.90 sold seperately. Even allowing for the extra material 48 inch squares are much more expensive (about 8 times more expensive). Why?

Does anyone know wher I could buy 48 inch terry squares or US style gauze diapers (prefer terry squares) at a more realistic price.

Looking forwrd to comments and (hope) tips

Re: minor rant

I think one of the reasons Web sites charge more is because they can! Many are too embarrassed to purchase incon products in person. The Web/catalogs/800 numbers are their only resources. Plus, let's face it, the demand for adult plastic/rubber pants and diapers isn't really that great. Don't know of any resources for gauze these days. Try a local fabric store for terry material, or look for bath towels on sale. (I was put in towels for diapers, after I outgrew the baby sizes.)

Re: minor rant

Look, I am sure these places have employees that spend time manufacturing your diapers. They all need to be paid.

The price of everythig is high these days.

The problem is that adult diapers cost more to make because they make many fewer than they make for baby diapers. It takes longer and there is not as much business to keep the price low. for baby diapers they make millions and millions are purchased every year, there are far fewer adult diapers made and purchased every year.

If you have a problem with the price the best thing to do would be to go tio a fabric store and purchase the fabric that you need. Let them know you will be making diapers and they will tell you what you need. You will also need to get a surger and some other tools. Take them all home and make your diapers. In the end you will likely spend more.

Re: minor rant

If look at the main page on the ACD website there are around 24mil people in this country only who are incontient and the number is growing because more people will be needing health reasons as time goes on. The number of adults useing daipers while the number of babies wearing cloth diapers is getting smaller all the time. Must people with babies are not useing cloth diapers. Even most hospital no longer carry cloth diapers for babies. To the prices to come down we need to let the companies who make the cloth diapers knwo haow many adults are now useing cloth diapers from some of the people who make money by chargeing high price. It should take litte or not much time to cut and sow adult diapers then it does to cut and sew baby cloth diapers. The biggset cost should only be the greater amount of matterial needed to make them. The biggest problem with adult cloth diapers is knowing wear to find them. I have never seen any cloth adult diapers in stores so you have to surf the web to find then. Most poeple on the web are getting from other place that we don't access to. Saw on the net that place like CHINA is make them and have if heard the they are being made in sone of the EASTERN countries like INDIA and PACKISTAN. But you have to be a retailer and some place that would buy fare more then what most of use could use at one time. There is one place on the net I know buy diapers fromm the EAST and sale at a great increase over what he pays for them to others. I know because one time before I got to point where I could no longer get a long without them I was trying to sell my diapers. He email and sounded like he want them. However when I told him what I wanted for them, which was about 1/2 of what I paid. He told me he wanted them so he could sale them on ebay for far more then what I paid for them in the first place. He told me he was get them from India I very little money. He did not say where in India or how he was paying for them, only that he could bet them very cheap.

Re: minor rant

If you prefer terry as a diaper and cost is a concern, you might consider using bath towels as they cost less and no body seems to be concerned if they notice you buying towels. I use them at times and they seem to work very well for me. When I can affort it, I buy regular adult cloth diapers, but towels work well in the meantime. Just a suggestion.

Re: minor rant

my cloth diapers are recycled gauze cut to size, and i have flannel prefolds, and i recently got discounted terry bath towels at big lots, two for $8.00.i find them comfortable.i cut about 3 inches off both ends at the band line and use the pieces in the center of the diaper as soakers.they tend to be a little wide but serve as night diapers anyway.
