you can ban people if you want to but I would refrain from it

you could end up banning someone you don't want to even your self at times

these spammers and more just come back and more because they don't have a static IP and more

so just use the image verification or have your messages aproved and more for your guestbook and forum


myself wouldn't even want to be spending my time going through do I ban this person or what here

message forum/guestbook you can but as said the person will just come back and more whomever they are

As others said, banning may not help you much if large scale spammers target you. They are bad bots, just like crawlers of search engines, pick up your URLs from somewhere and visit you through the servers. They can also overcome banning script or, other means.
