We won the Cup!
Well done to all the squad on a great Knockout Cup win tonight.Everyone had a wide smile across their chops at the final whistle which took forever to blow once Paul Caswell had belted home the winning goal in the 84th minute. Daventry Town as expected,offered difficult,testing opposition and are certainly better than Division 1. Going 2 nil up through my son's hero,Byrnesy and Danny Pownall still didn't mean the match was won. Daventry's goal before half-time ensured they would be back pushing Ar Tarn for another 45 minutes,which they did and gaining an equaliser. Paul Caswell's goal brought relief I think among the Desboro faithful and although Daventry drove hard for the final minutes,our defence remained solid.4 minutes of injury time,I'm not sure where that had come from,but que sera sera....it only delayed Mr Bluehead himself, Chris Logan for a few minutes more fromlifting the trophy. Every player deserved their medals for the performance and coming through a difficult 'away' route throughout the tournament. Steve,Graham,Becky deserve our gratitude for bringing the Cup to the Waterworks for the first time in seven years...I still recall Chongy scoring last time v Cogenhoe...now I'll remember the Byrnesy pass into the net,Danny's header and Paul's strike. Mostly,I'll remember the pride in Steve's face as the lads queued up to lift the cup.Thanks Steve. |
